Mr W. H. George arrived from the north on Saturday. Mr A. S. Adams arrived from the north on Saturday. Mr H. G. Ell, M.P., arrived from the north yesterday. Lieutenant H. Farr returned to "Wellington an Saturday night. The Hon J. Barr, M.L.C., returned from the north on Saturday. Mr G. H. Scales arrived from Wellington by the ferry steamer on Saturday.
Lieutenant F. L. Murray arrived from Wellington yesterday. He will return north to-morrow.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Invercargill (Mr and Mrs Duncan Macfarlane) are visitors to Christchurch. The Rev R. S. Gray, who was at one time stationed in Christchurch, arrived from the north on Saturday morning.
Mr W. Recce, a director of the Bank of New Zealand, returned on Saturday from Wellington, where he attended the annual meeting of the hank. Messrs L. M. Isitt, M.P., J. Graigic, M.P.j C. E. Statham, M.l\, and J. M. Dickson, M.P., arrived from the north on Saturday by the ferry steamer. Sir Rider Haggard, who is visiting New Zealand in connection with a proposal to secure land for returned' soldiers of the .Empire, left Wellington for Auckland on Friday, on his return to England. 'The death occurred at Gishorno yesterday of Mr William Duncan, general manager of the Poverty Day Farmers' Meat Company, aged sixty-nine years. For many years lie was prominently connected with the meat industry in Australia and' New Zealand.
Sergeant-Major T.
