MEAT PRICES.
IRGENTINE BEING FAVOURED. -Os Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. LONDON, May 25. Meat importers complain that Australian and New Zealand mutton and lamb are being sold at an average of three halfpence per pound-cheaper than Argentine, ostensibly in order to keep prices down. It is alleged that the Government.thereby is realising £20,000 weekly less" than might be obtained, and ibis sum"is apparently going into the jjocketsiof intermediates, and' not benefiting'consumers, as the retail prices nre' the same.as those of Argentine ipeat. Forced sales of colonial meat at lower'prices, than Argentine tend to prejudice reputation of colonial produce, to the advantage of its itrongest competitor.; ',,/ .
