FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The Christchurch Tramway Board mot yesterday; present—Mr J. A. • Flesher (chairman). tho Hon J. Barr and Messrs T. HDave.y, S. A. Staples, A. S. Taylor, G. T. Booth, C. M. Gray, D. Syke.B and H. Pearce. A special meeting of the board was held, at which it was resolved to pass o SDoeial order imposing a rate of .01273 in the £ in the Sumr.er causeway rate special rating area. Tho Sumner Borough Council W aa directed and empowered to levy and collect the rate. On tho. chairman's motion it was decided to confirm the resolution on June 5. .... The Works ai;d Traffic Committee reported that, representations had been made from time to time that tho last car to Boach, leaving the Square at 10.22 p.mshould be placed in (he same position as other lines. Tho committee stated that it was uniiblo to comply wiih tho request, but that for purposes of trial arrangements had been made for the 11.10 p.m. tram to New Brighton, via Wainoni, to continue its journey to North Beach stopping at Norton Street' The trial would bo made on Friday and Saturday nights only The committee could not comply with tho requost of the New Brighton Borough Council in regard to the Esplanade track to North Beach. The committee also reported that the Sumner causeway was now complete. Tho cost had been £4658 Sumner’s share when loan poll expenses are added amounted to £1576 The necessary loan had been taken up by the Tramway Depreciation Fund Commissioners on tho low rate of 43 per cent. Tho rate for interest a r d sinking fund would ho levied forthwith. The report was ad-'pted. Tho Works and Traffic Commit tea reported that for some time past there has been evidence that an improvement in service was necessary between Stanmoro Road and the city. When the North Beach line was electrified in October, 1914, the servico between •he Souare and Richmond was reduced, bit* the incrca»ed (raffle in (ho North Beach scc‘ion, couoled wi(h tho necessities of traffic at Rtnnmore Road, justify the restoration of the old service, and this will come into effect on (he Ist of next month.
