OBITUARY.

J. A. BADGERY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, May 9.

The death is announced of Mr John i A. Badgery, a noted pastoralist, whose eon, John, is farming in New Zealand. CHARLES BISHOP. A familiar figure in' Christchurch was removed- by the death of Mr; Charles Bishop, who passed away last month. Mr Bishop was born iu T Brighton, England, in 1841, anj ’ came to New Zealand in 1859. During the Maori war he saw service in the Waikato and Wanganui districts, acting as a despatch rider under his namesake, Captain Bishop. He was in some hot encounters in those troublous days, and carried throughout his life the marks of wounds from Maori tomahawks. Afterwards Mr Bishop was on the West Coast in the pioneer days of the goldmining industry. He was engaged principally at" Westport, and' worked there with Mr Seddon. Later on Mr Bishop was employed with Cobb and Co. in the old ooaching days on the run betweeu Christchurch and Kaiapoi. For over thirty years he was in the railway service, being a familiar figure on the Christchurch platform, and up to the time of his death he was a member of the staff of the Canterbury Jockey Club. Mr Bishop was one of the oldest members of the Pioneer Lodge ol ' Druids, and was esteemed everywhere for his kindliness and cheery nature. He leaves a widow and a grown-up, family of eight daughters and three sons. The funeral took place at Liuwood Cemetery. .

ORTON GUTHRIE BRADLEY. ‘ Mr Orton Guthrie Bradley, who passed away recently, was the eldest, son of William Orton' Bradley, shipowner and builder, of Sunderland. England, and came to New, Zealand in the early days to his uncle, the Rer, R. R Bradley, of Charteris Bay, Lyttelton, with whom he lived for soiu< years. He afterwards settled >5 Geraldine district, where he lived \for about twenty-two years, retiring some sixteen years ago to .reside m Christchurch. Mr Bradley brought up < familv of seven sons and three daughters. One son left with tua main body, was wounded in tho ' landing on Gallipoli, returned t» the front and was then invalided to England with a second wound am? dysentery. Two other sons are uo'f in camp at Featherstou, ano his eldest son, Captain VV. O. Bradley, has been on the start at " Featherston since war broke out. Of the seven sons, two are deac and all the remaining sous are serving • their country except one, whose large family prevents him going. Ho served in the South African War with th* brother who is now with the mam body.

ROBERT FRASER. Mr Robert Fraser, whose funeral took place at Rangiora yesterday, had been a resident of the town tor nearly forty years. At the age of seventeen he joined the British Army, and alter serving for seven years in the .Ist Regiment, part of the time in Canada, he purchased his discharge, and found employment in railway construction, both in Canada and the United States. Forty-four years ago lie came to Non Zealand, landing at Port Chalmers. After working for some time m Otago he came to Canterbury and eventually settled at Rangiora.. He was for » considerable period in the employ of Messrs Boyd and Keir, builders, and afterwards worked for the Rangiora Borough Council as one ol its outdoor staff for twenty-one years, till advanced age compelled his retirement. He was twice married, and leaves a large number of descendants, some of whom hold responsible positions m Canada and the United States.
