NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION- \ MEETING OF CANTERBURY CENTRA ; I The Canterbury Centre of the New Zea* land Amateur Athletic Association met .last evening, Mr A. L. Chappell (president), being in the chair. The chairman welcomed Mr W. R. Taylor (secretary) upon his return from t ® Maymom camp, where he had been statione for several months carrying out work on behalf of the Y.M.C.A. , The executive reported that the River Bank Carnival sports had proved very successful, forty events being carried out and the time table being adhered to. Concerning the sports held at Haiswell during the Christmas holidays, it was stated that with, the exception of the bicycle and novelty events, all tbe races had been competed for trophies. It was an amateur meeting purely, ami constituted a record for tao Haiswell sports iu that respect. . The executive further reported that then had been an irregularity iu connection witt the Rutherford Cup • competition for Bon Scouts at the River Bank Carnival. The irregularity was discussed, and it was decided that in view of the circumstances the rare should be re-run. The date of holding the competition was left to the. execu*l'fhe matter of holding an athletic sports evening was discussed. It was •hat the ranks of all the clubs affiliated with the centre had been so depleted by waT enlistments that it was doubtful if enough men were left to ensure a successful evening f entertainment. It was suggested that _ a schoolboys’ snorts evening should be lielu. Mr Wallace proposed that a* sports even* ing should be held with three events, namely. lOOvds for primary schools. 440yds for secondary schools, and r 120yds open race, handicap events. \ ' The proposal was carried.
