MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The first meeting of this year’s session of the Svdenham United Band of Hope was held in the Methodist Schoolroom on Monday evening. The president, Mr \v. lett, presided over a fair attendance. Ad* iutant Lord, of the Salvation Army gave the address. The programme consisted of a pianoforte duct by- Misses Daisy Snnpson and Ida Irving, vocal solos by Misses Irene Duncan and Phrenic Smith,, recitations by Misses Bebv Fardell, Gwen Mcrrunan, Vida. Anderson. Vera Dahlberg, Maisio Still and Connie M’Callum, and selections by the Salvation Army Boys’ Band. During the evening four pledges were taken. On Monday evening an entertainment was given by the Hope of Sydenham division branch of the Sons of Temperance. The St Albans, Christchurch, Addington and Addington Juveni'e Lodges were well represented. over one hundred being present in all. An address on the war, accompanied by'limelight views, was delivered by Brother T. Prentice, S.W.P., a pianoforte selection was contributed by Mr R. Purdom and. « c o n* by Brother A. N. Sharp. Brother J. Pord, M.TV.P. of New Zealand, spoke on the work’ ot the order in the Dominion, and urged young members to join so that the Sydenham division could take up the juvenile system.
