In connection with the previous paragraph referring to the barque Golden Gate, at present discharging case oil at Auckland, a diort description of the vessel is of interest. The Golden Gate is built of steel, and is tSlft long at the waterline. The masts are 159 ft high, and arc of steel for 120 ft of their length. No less than 6869 square yards of canvas are carried. - The crew comprises seventeen sailors before the mast., and with the master (Captain Bnrgcss), officers and two stewards, total twenty-five. Captain Burgess is accompanied by his wife. The Golden Gate was built twenty-eight years aeo in Great. Britain, hut was then named the Lord Shaftesbury, whose effigy forms the vessel’s figurehead.
