JOINING THE CITY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—At the meeting of ratepayers at Avonside last night, Messrs A. S. Taylor, I>. G. Sullivan and G. Scott occupied their allotted time in addressing the meeting in favour of joining Greater Christchurch. Then a few residents addressed the meeting, when the chairman announced that lie would not detain them long, as- some mightwant to catch the tram. The opposition, which was in a large majority, seeing that there was no chance of explaining tlieir view, refrained from voting, lienee the misleading report- that the resolution was unanimously 'carried.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER. River Road. February 22. (Mr W. J.- Jenltin, who presided at the meeting, states that there were ample- opportunities for fully discussing the question. After the. principal speakers had spoken he repeatedly asked if anybody else wished to speak, and as there was silence he said that he would like, to say a few words, but as many present did not wish%to miss the tram he would not detain them long. Yesterday a gentleman who was present told Mr Jonkin that it- was the most- unanimous meeting he had over attended. —Ed. “ L.T.”)
