THE BRITISH LINES. AERIAL ACTIVITY. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AT DON. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright LONDON, February 22. Sir Douglas Haig reports: —“Twen-ty-six aeroplanes -yesterday attacked German depots at Don (south of Lille), and caused extensive damage to stores and railway lines. Enemy aircraft recently made several night attacks on various towns in our area. There were no military results. A few civilians were killed.

ARTILLERY ACTIVITY. The High Commissioner reports LONDON, February 23. Early this morning we fired a mine near the Hohcnzblleni redoubt, our troops occupying a position near, the lip of the crater. Our artillery bombarded the enemy trenches in the vicinity of Maricort. north of Fvise, Ovillers. north-east of Albert, and also near the Tpres-Com-ines canal. Hostile artillery shelled our positions south-west of Ypres, using lachrymatory shells. A British aeroplane was struck by an anti-aircraft shell, but although the pilot’s log was practically severed, he managed'to land his machine.safely in the aerodrome without injury to the observer.

IN ARTOIS. FRENCH TRENCHES PENETRATED GERMANS RETAIN SECTIONS. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. Following a violent bombardment in Artois the enemy strongly attacked the French at the Bois dp Givenchy, penetrating the first lino of trenches. He completely destroyed these on a front of about eight hundred metres and several points in supporting trenches. After the French counterattack he only occupied some sections, the enemy, whose strength was estimated at seven battalions, suffered conside rnblc losses from curtain, infantry and machine gun fire. In tho southeast- at R.nelineourt the enemy blow up a mine, the crater of which the French, occupied.

SNOWSTORM STOPS ACTIVITIES. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON. February 23. . \ snowstorm has suspended activities in‘the Artois district.

GERMAN REPORT. Bt Telegraph—Pres* Association—Copyright. ''Received February 23, 9.15 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, February 22. A German communique states:— We stormed and captured eight hundred metres of French trenches east of Souchez. taking 326 prisoners.

ON THE MEUSE. GERMANS TAKE TRENCHES. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. Yesterday evening the Germans attacked east of Brabant-sur-Meuse between Bois d’Haumont and Perbebois, gaining a footing in some sections of tho advanced trenches and in places pushing as far as tho supporting trenches. A communique states:—The Germans after a violent bombardment renewed extreme!'' brisk attacks between Bra-bant-sur Meuse and Herbebois. They occupied the Bois d’Haumont and a salient north of Beaumont, at the cost of considerable losses.

IN LORRAINE. ARTILLERY ACTIVITY. Tim High Commissioner reports:— . LONDON, February 22. There has been considerable artillery activity on tlm Chapelotte-Ban-de-Sapt front. A Zeppelin flow over Lnnevillo yesterday evening, dropping bombs and causing unimportant, damage. Pursued by French aeroplanes it made off towards Me'tz.

UPPER ALSACE. TWO GERMAN ATTACKS REPULSED. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. Ea’st of Seppois two German attacks were repulsed.
