AEROPLANES.
PROPOSED GIFTS TO BRITAIN. A MINISTER’S SUGGESTION. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 23. The statement contained in to-day’s cable news that the Germans have gained supremacy in aerial warfare was the inspiration for an interesting suggestion on the part of the Minister of Munitions to-night. “This news only preres the necessity of something being done in connection. with the provision of aeroplanes for Great Britain, said the Minister. “It seems to m© to be j appropriate that New Zealand should take the matter up as was done at the time of the gift of the battleship New Zealand to the Old Country. That gift created an electrical effect and stimulus to the movement for a strong navy. If the various cities and towns of the Dominion would take up the question of gift aeroplanes, and if each would* subscribe towards a fund for that ob-1 ject, it would have a good effect, «** i pecially as we can now train men as aviators in this country. . 1 “I look upon this as a psychological i moment to justify such action as I have 1 suggested on the part of New Zealand, S which is 6o prosperous and so loyal.”
