FARMER'S LOVE AFFAIR.
"BREACH OF PROMISE ACTION,' SETTLEMENT ARRIVED* AT. It was announced at the Supreme Court yesterday that a settlement had been arrived at with reference to the claim for £IOOO damages for. alleged breach of promise of marriage, brought by Irene Florence lies, of Christchurch, against Ernest Stackhouse, i'ai mer, of Oneponga and Mount Brow n. At Monday's sitting of the Court Mr Alpers and' Mr Goodman appeared for the plaintiff, whilst Sir John Findlay, K.C., and Mr Wright appeared for the 'defendant. The ease for the plaintiff was completed on Monday. ‘When the Court resumed yesterday Mr Wright said that a settlement had been arrived at between the parties. The terms of settlement were that the plaintiff admitted the action had been' brought owing to a misunderstanding as to the defendant s in-' tentions. Both parties realised that no marriage could now take place, and an amicable settlement. had been arrived at. It had been agreed between counsel that the amount paid should not be divulged. Mis Honor said that it seemed to be a very satisfactory arrangement between the parties. * . ’
On Mr Alpers's application the case was formally struck out/. .•.■.■'
