SOLDIERS’ GROUP.

MILITARY CONCERT AT SUMNER. A military concert in aid.of the Soldiers’ Group was given in the Town "Hall, Sunnier, last night, by the A Company, Ist Canterbury Regiment. There was a large and appreciative audience. Items wore contributed Misses Mankinsoii and. "Williams,- Alvs Jones, Messrs Melrose, Gills, . Baitlett, M'Donakl and. Carter, Sergeant. Garlpncl, Private Aitaheson and Bugler Thomas'. An exhibition of bayonet fighting "was given by a squad trained bv Lieutenant Trent and an awkuard squad. The last part of the. programme represented a camp file cnteitainment and was very effective. During the interval the Mayor, Mr »T. B. Laureiison, in thanking the perio.nners for their entertainment stated that a .picture of Sumner, dated 1864, was to have been' sold' by auction, but ivculd be disposed of by subscription during the next lew weeks. A stage collection of coins during the recitation of “The Absent-minded Beggar realised £1 7s. and this, together .with other receipts, will bring the proceeds well up to £lO CAFE CHAXTAXT. A Cafe Chnntaiit arranged by the nurses' ami women's sub-section of the Soldiers’ Queen Group will be' opened by Lady Liverpool at the Art Gallery to-morrow at d. 30 p.m. r lhc entertainment will continue without interruption until 10 p.m., and an excellent programme will be presented.
