STEAMER PEREGRINE SOLD. The Australian Steamships steamer Perecrine, one of the best known inter-state traders, has changed owners, having been secured by an overseas firm at a price not E-tated, , The Peregrine in her day was one of the * crack " vessels' on the coast. She arrived in iust'ralia first in 1891, and her steaming and seagoing qualities gained for her a reputation that is even to-day well remembered, tome years ago, in order to meet the trade requirements, she *as lengthened by about fortv feet, the marvellous manner in which 'he "work was carried out—it being the first case of ship surgery ever done in Australia —attracting great attention. The Peregrine is a vessel of 1980 tons, and was built in 1891 by W. B. Thompson »nd Co.. Ltd., Dundee, for the General St*am Navigation Company of London, to be n<-ed in the Continental express trade between Harwich and Hamburg. However, before being placed ill this trade she was purchased by Messrs Howard, Smith and Sons, and subsequently took up hey running in the Australian passenger nnd cargo trade as the commodore ship of the fleet at the time.

SHIPPING NOTES. Owing to the inclement weather yesterday, work on the waterfront Wjis restricted. The Union Company's collier Koromiko was unable to commence discharging, and a similar Hate of affairs existed in regard _to the Vacuum Oil Company's Baron Ogilvie. It is expected that discharging operations on board the American schooner Defiance will be completed about the end of the week. She will sail direct for Cray's Harbour. In continuation of discharge of her Liverpool cargo, the steamer Tongnriro, under charter to the Federal and Shire Line,' will arrive in port to-morrow. She has a large cargo to laud, and probably it will be about Friday before she leaves for Dunedin. Owing to the inclement weather discharging operations on board the Baron Ogilvie were not commenced until yestcrrla\ afternoon. In consequence of the delay • t will probably be Thursday before she 'is ready to sail for Wellington.
