SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
LIXYVObP. At the monthly meeting of the Linwcod School Committee there were present — Messrs W. H. Denton (chairman). U. Carter, AV. J. Jenkiu, I). Coulter, (.?. Phillip;, K. Ellis and G. Guu'lry. Tho Education Board wrote stating that Mr R. Chiguo and Miss D. Laishloy had been appointed pupilteachers. The head master (Mr F. T. Evans) reported Hint since tho reopening- of the school on January 31 eighty-four Slew pupils had been enrolled and fifty-soven withdrawn, the number of pupils now on Uie roll being G7o and the average attendance 612. The school had met with considerable success i« the recent Govommeilt examinations. P. Saxby and H. P. Smith hnd won Junior National scholarships, whilst Jessie Clark, L. Hawkins, K. M'Clurg, J. Stewart, Evelyn Airs. H. Wclsford, It. Taylor, A. Wilson, h. ClarUson, V. Whiteombe and K. Pullar had passed the Government free place examination. The swimming classes, xindor tho control of .Miss Fitch and Mr G. Ormnndy, were still well attended, and thirty-two scholars had lca;nt to swim this season. It was agreed to donate prizes for the scholars' swimming sports on February 25. The resignation of Mr Bnrson aa was received, and it was decide;* to call for applications fc.r the position. It was decided to place on record the committee's appreciation of ihe efforts of the ladies of the LinwoodDallington Soldiers' Am and of the head master and his staff in connection with tho recent sale of work and breaklng-Up ceremony. ___„________
