MICROSCOPICAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Cante,rbury Microscopical Society was held in Mr'C. B. Morris's rooms' last night. Mr Morris presiding over a good attendance of members. The first annual report showed that tho society was formed as the result of a meeting convened by Mr C. Morris. It started with nineteen members nnd during the year fourteen new members had joined and two had resigned, leaving the present membership at tliirtv-one. The iiocwty had one member ('l)r J. P. Whetter) at the front, !t had done a great amount of useful work, as was evident from the number of papers contributed and read by members at the meetings. A field day held at Johnson's fishponds resulted in many specimens being collected for examination. At present one night was set aside for practical work.. The society was not for experienced nucroscopis'ts only. One of its principal objects was to interest and train the, less experienced members in the methods of mi'iioscopy, so that they may be encouraged to take up some special branch of research work.
