HEATHCOTE BABY CONTEST.
FLAG REALISES £6-1 AT AUCTION. With the near approach of closing day, interest, in the Heathcoto Valley baby queen contest intensifies. The school children gave an hour's concert programme in aid of their queen on Thursday evening, with gratifying results. Master Edward Bloom's song appealing for pennies brought in over £l. A "Maori haka was encored. Mr C. Jones auctioned a large flag presented by Captain Bloom. Each bidder of £1 and upwards was lustily cheered' by the children, and eventually Mr T. H. Baker purchased the flag for the school at £2-5. During the sale a. very prettv stage scene was effected by returned wounded men and soldiers leaving for the front holding the flag as a canopy over the baby queen (li. Salt), her 'train-bearers and the lady president. Mrs W. Grazier, and assistants. Mr Cox and party gave mimical items that were very much appreciated.
