IN BUKOWINA. INCESSANT RUSSIAN ATTACKS. By Telegraph—Press Association— CoprrigH (Received February 20. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 19.
Mr Perceval Gibbon, writing from Bucharest, says that the Russian advance on the Bukowina front is a wonderful spectacle. The roads aco seething like torrents, as miles of toiling men and horses drag vast, batterios across the valleys and precipitous slopes, making good the ground won by bloody bayonet charges. Along the Bojan Road the Russians are incessantly attacking, and never slackening the sure on the trenches, which the Austrians are holding across,the wide valley narrowing towards the Pruth. At Zaleszczyki fighting beyond the trenches the'cavalry came into action. The fighting on the Strypa and Styr lino has developed, and a serious Russian offensive is being prosecuted despite awful losses.
THE NORTHERN ARMIES. GERMAN AERIAL ACTIVITY. GAS USED NEAR JACOBSTADT. (Received February 20, 5.5 p.m.) PETROGRAD, February 19. A communique states:—Raids by enemy Zcppeiins and aeroplanes are more frequent in the Dvinsk and Riga sectors. The Germans sent clouds of asphyxiating gas towards our trendies in the Jacobstadt district. GERMANS REPULSED. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 19. Petrograd reports: The enemy bombed the railway station at Nitzgal and again attacked Gabronovka, But was repulsed.
