What is probably the most extraordinary forest in the world occupies a tableland some six miles in width, near the west coast of Africa. The peculiarity of tho trees is that though their trunks are as much as four feotdn diameter, they only reach a height of one foot. No tree bears more than two leaves, and the latter arc not infrequently six feet long.
