MR CLEMENT WRAGGE’S LECTURES.
“THE MIRACLES OF THE SKIES.” “ Tho Miracles of the Skies ”• was the title of the address given at the Choral Hall last evening, by Mr Clement Wraggc. to a- fairly largo attendance. The lecturer urged the importance of teaching children to take an interest in tho marvels and beauties of Nature, .and recommended a- good telescope being presented to each child found interesting himself or hersclt in the heavens. Of the thousands, or rather millions, of suns in the universe, Mi Wraggc said that- some were so tar from the earth that the light from them, although travelling at tho rate of 186,000 miles per second, had ' not yet- reached our earth. at tuicl taken 900 millions of years for the world to evolve to its present form, and the conception oi that evolution gave men a wider conception of God. Astronomy was the gi cates of all sciences, and to the astronomer the universe was as a- playground. Many views were screened during the lecture, which throughout was followed with close interest. The lecture was followed hv a demonstration ot tic marvels of radium. Mr Wragge’s last address of the present season will be given this evening.
