ECONOMY.
TO TaE EDITOR. Sir,—l understand that the Government steamer Tutanekai, which visited Lyttelton this week, has been laid up in' "Wellington for over twelve months, having just recently been placed in commission to tako his Excellency the Governor on a cruise round tlie Dominion. The Government, have spent thousands of pounds’ during this period in the conveyance of troops and stores to M’ellingtoii from Lyttelton, and it seems strange that it has not occiuied to someone in authority to utilise the Government steamer for this purpose, which would have meant a big sat iffg to the Dominion. Further, the steamer could well have been utilised tor conveying to and from Lyttelton tlio different drafts of men on leave, thus saving them the cost of their passages by the ferry steamer. 1 led sure, had this been done, it would have been very much appreciated by our boys. It is not yet too late, as unfortunately ilio end of the war is by no means in sight, and the Government should not only* preach economy but practise it as well.—l am, etc., ECONOMY.
