According to the forty-eighth annual report of the Canadian Department of Marine and Fisheries, the total number of vessels remaining on the register books of tlio Dominion on December 31, 1911. was 8772, measuring 932,122 tons, being an increase of 227 vessels and 35,457 tons as compared with 1913. The number of steamers on the register books on the same date was 4051, with a gross tonnage of 711,783. Assuming the average value to bo 30 dollars per ton, tho value of the net registered tonnage of Canada on December 31, 1911, would be 27,972.G00 dollars. The number of new vessels built and registered iu the Dominion of Canada during the year 1911 was 327, measuring 13,316 tons net register. Estimating the value of the now tonnage at. 15 dollars per ton, gives a total value of 1.950,570 dollars. During the year 212 vessels were removed from the register books. It is estimated that 43,163 men and boys, inclusive of the masters, were employed on ships registered in Canada during 1911.

SHIPPING NOTES. The Shaw, Snvill and Albion Company’s liner Delphic, which will load in New Zealand for Home, sailed from Newcastle at 3 p.m. on Tuesday for Picton. She will visit other ports of the Dominion. Mr G. B. Carty, late second officer of tho Kaitangata, has joined tho Kamo as chief officer, in place of Mr C. D. M'Kiulay. Mr S. Herring, assistant purser of tho Mararoa., left for Sydney on Thursday, to join tho Atua. Mr Yf. Cairns, fifth engineer of tho Mararoa. has gone ashore on sick leave.

The New Zealand Shipping Company’s chartered steamer Arrino left port yesterday in continuation of Homeward loading. Whilst at Lyttelton the vessel loaded a largo quantity of wool and tallow and sundries. Under charter to the Vacuum Oil Company, the steamer Baron Ogilvy is due to-day from Timavu. She has about 17 ; 000 casos of assorted oils to land here, and will probably proceed to Wellington on Monday night.
