The bulk of military opinion is inclined to the belief that the Germans’ activity in the West foreshadows a general offensive. In nearly oteO case the attacks have been made on salients in order to test the Allied lines.
Practically all the enemy achieved was the occupation of a lew craters, prepared at infinite expense ot high explosives and labour.
THE BRITISH LINE.
GERMANS EXPLODE MINE SOUTH OF LOOS. (Received February 18. 10.26 p.m.) LONDON. February 18. Sir Douglas Haig reports: —’1 ho enemy exploded a mine south of Loos. Our five checked his attempt to occupy the crater, but wo occupied the near edge. The situation in the region of the Ypres-Comines canal is unchanged’. PARIS, February IS. A communique states: —A destructive fire has been kept up on the enemy organisations towards Stecnstraeto °nd opposite Bocsingho.
