A scheme has been formulated by the New Zealand Society of Accountants to provide a clerical training ioi returned soldiers, who, through the exigencies of the war, have been incapacitated lrom pursuing tneir oidinary emplovmentt. The society will rely upon the Government to pass lor instruction, only such partially disabled men as the Discharged Soldiers Jniormation Department considers likely to profit by the instruction. It will also undertake the financial responsibility and supervision of the scheme to provide instruction in office routine and bookkeeping, but at the same time reserving to itself the right to obtain by special means such additional outside financial assistance as it deems necessary in the event of an expansion of the scheme beyond present expectations. The instruction will be provided by certain selected commercial schools and instructors, and in dealing with such schools the society will select one school in each centre only (to be selected by members of the council in each centre), and all business arrangements and contracts with schools and instructors shall be' made by and all reports be sent to the Executive Committee of the society, who will have full authority to make' all necessary arrangements, and will, if necessary, confer with responsible officers of the Discharged Soldiers Information Department. . The course of the instruction is to be that of the bookkeepers’ examination of the society, but, at the outset it. is intended that, special attention shall be devoted to instruction m office routine and systems, and the elementary ground work of accounts. The coaching schools selected in each of the four centres shall provide either personal or correspondence tuition at the option of the student. The personal instruction course will be booked for a. period not exceeding one quarter at a. time. Correspondence instruction should be provided for those not resident in the four centres, or who, being resident therein, would prefer correspondence to personal instruction. Where personal instruction is provided. the society stipulates for male tcflchers. The fees for instruction shall he arranged between the society and the school on a uniform basis. All students are to be introduced and accredited to the coaching schools through the society. Details of the scheme are to be supplied to the various accountant students’ societies in the four centres, who are beino- invited to consider and suggest how'they can assist by special meetings , or instruction classes or otherwise.
