Tile Lighliu’t Committee, repoiting on n letter received from .the Waimam County Council, in regard lo electric lamps on W in dary roads, stated that the Riccarton Boiough hud control of all iam Pa ou boundan\ roads excepting four lamps on Cutler s Road, four lamps on Dean's Avenue, and tlirco onl Riccarton. The committee suggested that where the council supnlied to lighting consumers on ono side ot a boundary I ‘load* and . the borough.supplied those on the other side, each of the should run a phase wire and should use a neutral wire common to both systems, each body bearing half the cost of the neutral wire The committee recommended that a charge of £3 per lamp fer annum should be the busis of charge on all larapß, each party paying half the rent; and that the opinion of an outside engineer should be obtained as to tlie best basis c-n which to buy and sell electrical energy. The. recommendations were adopted. „ A letter from the Christchurch City Council, referring to contributions to the 1 oor of Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Relief Fluid, was referred to the Finance Committee. . . ... The Christchurch Beautifying Association wrote suggesting that, tho council should consider the advisability of laying cut wide footpaths in purely residential areas, so that the carriage way should not be,wider than was actually required for traffic, .and that the spa.ee between the asphalt footpath and fence should be sown in grass in such a wav that it could he cut, easily by the residents. It was alsa suggested that 'the cooperation and approval of local residents should be secured before any district was deait with, so t.liai residents might regard the street alongside their property as bemg under their special care. The matter was referred to tiro IVorks Committee. ■
WOOLSTON. _ A meeting of the Woolston Borough C6unscil was he’d last ni ? hf; present-The Mayor (Mr J J. Graham) and Councillors W. ruller, L. Skart. C. Hill, G. Lilley, J. Stabson, F. Newton, D. M'Rae, T. Raddifie, and J. Richardson. ~, . , A letter was received from the Christchurch Beautifying Association, asking the council to consider the advisability of lajiug out wider footpaths in purely residential areas, so that the carriage-way might not be wider than was actually required for the traffic, and that the space between the asphalt footpath and the fence might be laid down in grasfi. The letter was referred to the Works Committee. ' A letter from the Christchurch City Council with reference to the Poor of Great Britain, Ireland and Bolgium Fund, was referred to the Finance Committee. The council went into committee to consider the report of the Electrical Committee. It was resolved that a special meeting should be held on Thursday evening next, to deal with electrical matters. , , The Works Committee recommended that various applications to connect with water supply should be granted. The report was adopted. The Finance Coi nm iteee recommended that proceedings should be taken to obtain all outstanding rates, which amounted some £2OO. The recommendation wRs Accounts amounting to £649 17s lid were passed for payment. " , _ .. „ Permissiqn was granted to the Wools Band to give an open-air concert m » ■Woolston Domain on behalf of the Soldiers Queen, and to take up a collection. It was decided to send a letter to Mr r. Hamilton, thanking him for the efficient manner in which he had carried out tho duties of clerk during the illness of the permanent clerk.

Cor, Bay. the Estates Committee reported that an inspection had been made, and lecommended that repairs and improvements should be carried out in accordance wit.i the engineer's report, on condition that t tenant agreed to pay an additional rent o 5s per week.
