PERSONAL NOTES.
Further particulars of the death' of Sergeant R. R. Can- Rollett have been received by his father, Mr H. 'A. Carr Rollett, of Matanuku Downs, Putaruru, "Waikato, in a letter written by Lieutenant W. Hacata, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles. The writer, who is at present at Brighton, Sussex, England, states that on the night of August 27 they made an attack on a hill occupied by the Turks. " After ire had driven them off," he continues, " they commenced to counter-attack time after time, and' I was making a round of inspection of our new position when I came across Sergeant Kol]<»tt working one of our machine guns by himself, the- rest of the gun crew all being killed or wounded. I spoke to Sergeant Rollett, and told him as soon as I could get reinfo-ements 1 would send some men up to him. He replied quite cheerfully th.it he was J. 11
