Henderson appealed to members not to incite the. men in this crisis to take a course that would bring about the most lamentable defeat Britain and her Allies had ever experienced. The Hori* G. H. Roberts said they could not take the responsibility of refusing assistance to those charged with the country's cause. If Mr Asquittt had repudiated his pledge regarding married men the Conference would have been justified in denouncing him. Th«> Conference, while declaring against military service, rejected the motion bv a majority of 35,000 to agitate for " the repeal of the measure if the Bill should become law.
