BURGESSES' ASSOCIATIONS.
SUMXER. A meeting of the Sumner Burgesses' Association was held in the Town Hall on SSturday evening, when ',he president, Mr J. H. Maynard, occupied 'the chair. Tho Lvt'teltm Harbour Board wroti regretting, its'inability at the present juncture to give the information asked for in the matter cf responsibility for the state of the lifeboat gear., ' A letter was received from the Hon J. Barr, the borough representative on tho Tramway Board, stating that arrangements would be made to place parcel tickets and, later on, dog tickets, on sale at the local agent s in Rcdcliffs and Sumner. The chairman stated that,. at the request of several members tho Hon J. Barr had attended a- meeting of the executive committee and had given a very satisfactory statement in connection with the proposed lighting of Redclifis by" eloctricity. and the committee had expressed it> unanimous approval of tho steps the council had taken. The chairman said the deputation appointed for the purpose had waited upon the HedclifTs Burgesses' Association with regard to the amalgamation of the societies, without result. On the motion of Mr H. Battle, sen., seconded by Mr E. Murley, it was decided to place on record the committee's regret that tho licdcliffs Association couid not see its way to .amalgamate, and those present agreed that any resident of Redcliffs wishing to join the Sumner society should be invited to do so Tho question of the amalgamation of the Beautifying Society was left over for consideration at the next meeting. Mr H. Buttle stated that a. tram guard had recently been dismissed by the board under distressing circumstances. He was universally respected and a great favourite on the line. The secretary reported that a publio petition was already in circulation and had been signed in a day by over '2OO residents, who were asking the board to reconsider the case favourably and reinstate tho officer to the best advantage possible. On the motion of the president, seconded bv Mr If. F. Roberts, it was decided ,to write to the Hon J. Barr and request him to ask for' the Tramway Board's favourable reception and consideration of the petition. The unsatisfactory condition of *he bathing sheds was discussed, and a- motion was passed asking the council to attend to the matter and provide increased facilities for bathers.
