The chairman slated that members of. the Centre were engaged in various kinds of work on behalf of the needs of the Dominion's soldiers. It was not apparent at the. moment what could be done in regard to the council's proposals. He suggested that the council might give <a lead.in the matter. . Mr Nordon said he thought that a great swimming carnival should be organised for Natation Day. October 1 next. Country clubs could hold festivals and a big carnival mi"ht be arranged to be l.f.'d at the Municipal Baths, under the direction of the Christchnrch Centre. It was decided, on the motion of Mr W. Johnson, 'that the letter should -bo acknowledged and (hat the association should be informed that the Christchurch Centre intended to hold swimming carnivals, the proceeds of which would be devoted to the Patriotic Fund. . .■ ,-, ■■ :.■ Mr Toorriey moved that the Centre should arrange for a carnival to be hold at the Sydenham baths on February 19 'The motion was carried, and details were left to the executive. In regard to an evening carnival, proposed ti bo held in.'the Municipal'Baths on February *>*,• it was decided that a letter should be sent to the City Council, requestin" that a fee should not be charged for the use of the bath-, on that evening. It was resolved that inquiries should he made as to whether a carnival could bo held a- the Bangiora swimming baths on March 2.•" ■ ■" ; NORTH CANTERBURY CLUB. A meeting of the committee •'*•»«* Canterbury Amateur Swimming Club was S' at Ran.iora on Wednesday evening Air AV T. Wilson presiding. Mr S. U. lal rrson resigned the office of secretary, having enlisted for the front. Mr J. Kinley was elected to the office, and Mr Petersen was heartilv thanked for hi s services. It was decided to hold another evening race meeting on February 10, the events to bo a 50yd handicap and diving for plates.
