WATER ON BECKENHAM PARK.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —A letter appears in your journal of even date regarding "Water .on Beckenham Park. As one interested. I, too, take strong exception to the suggestion by the City Engineer to divert the -water to the pumping" station as this was seriously Considered when a few of the residents went to select sites. This being one of the. greatest assets, with all other of Nature’s surroundings, the residents decided to socure the grounds. The part of Beckenham Park • where these springs rife is well worthy of inspection. and as yet has not been mutilated by the hand! of man, and now to attempt to disfigure this beauty spot will be most strenuously opposed. Beckenham and Fisherton are selfrated for this paVk. We welcome anybody here, and those who love scemo views and Nature study can spend a few hours on the eastern side of the park, where they will find beautiful springs, nigger heads, bracken fern, innumerable grasses which want a name, streams teeming with young trout, whitebait, eels, etc. In lß P ia y he well termed “ Tho Beckenham Sanctuary; trespassers in search ot water will be prosecuted. —I am, etc., S. M’ALISTER. Christchurch, December 9.
