FLAG REALISES £179. Tho Cashmere Hills School Patriotic Fiiir was opened on Saturday afternoon by the Mayor (Mr H. Holland). The stall-holders were as follow: Afternoon tea, Mrs E. C. Andrews; fruit salad, Mrs B, Stock; ice cream, Mi.-rS I. Stock; bran tub, Mesdames Andrews and M'Crostie; produce, Mr J. Wilson; Bweets, Miss D. Taylor; toys and household goods, Mr W. A. Stout, Mra Newman and Miss Suckling; coconut shy, Mr Durbridge; Kaiser Bill, Mr J. Miller. Tho Maori girls from the Ohoka Girl.",' College were present iu charge of Miss Opio, and gave performances during tho afternoon, adding considerably to the fund.
During the afternoon a flag was sold by auction and realised the sum of £179 IDs. The bidding started at five guineas and under tho able manipulation of -Mr C. E. Jones, the price rose to twenty-five guineas, at which figure it wns knocked down to Mr J. A. Pannctt. It was afterwards sold and resold at tho following amounts:—Mrs Lamb. H. S. Richards, C. Atkinson and C. L. M'Crostie, each £5 6s; Anonymous and Dr Morkane, each £5; Professor Macmillan Brown, Norman Duncan, A. W. Bennett, W. M'Millan, S. Hurst Sedgor, Miss Wilson and Mrs Murray, each £3 3s; Mrs Crosby, Mrs W. M'Millan, F. C. Price, H. Brinkman, Mr Erne Brittan, F, D. Andrews, C. E. Salter, J. H. Menzies, Charles Clark, A. Smith, D. Reese and F. W. Crawford eaoh £2 2s; Mrs W. Broadway, Miss lutchenman, Mrs F. O. Andrews, Mrs T. E. Taylor, Mrs F. C. Price, Mrs R. Speight, Mrs Colonel Andrew, Mrs W. Mansell, W. A. Stout, F. A. Andrews, C. H. Duff, Dr Bradshaw, Henry Cotterill, Professor Gabbatt, W. M. Everest, J. Newton. W. Mander, J. Loe, L. M. Isitt, F. D. Andrews (family), W. Scaarge, H. Bull, F. Freeman, C. Bayley, J. Other amounts were received from Miss Cholmondeley, Miss Williams, Mrs Walker, Mrs Stocks, Mrs Forbes and Misses H. Packwood, J. Fraer, J. Cannon, R. Carey, W. Lancaster and H. Holland. The flag was finally knocked down to Mr J. A. Pannett for twenty guineas and he presented it to the school through the chairman, who briefly thanked him foi; his generous and patriotic gift. Three cheers were given for Mr Pannett and for the chief organiser, Mi* C. L. M'Crostie.
After the war is over it is intended to have tho names of all those who have left the district for the front embroidered on the flag.
