The committee approved of some alterations and additions to the brick , school as outlined by the - Beard of Education. The head master reported the attendance of most of the children as good, but the bad attendance of a. constant proportion of the children would cause the school to have to work under a reduced staff next year. This could have been avoided if . the Attendance Act had been made operative. The head master presented figures giving particulars of some of the worst cases. It was decided to ask the board to have the Attendance Act more strictly enforced. It was agreed that the school should break up on December 22, and members of the committee were invited to attend the doting ceremonies on that day. WALTHAM. The Waltham School Committee met on Wednesday; present—Mr C. AT Harvey (chairman), Mrs Wilson l and Messrs T._ Mort-' lock, A. Watkins, W. Wraight, S. D. Besley. R. Watterson and J. L. Forde. The head master reported the average, attendance fer the month as Col. and the highest attendance 653. The present roll number was 715. With reference to the children's work in connection with the Lady Liverpool Fund, the following articles had been supplied to date: 1300 handkerchiefs. 80 face cloths, 25 pair socks, 25 mufflers, 33 traycloths, 12 operation cloths, 3 balaclavas, 3 pair slippers. The infant children had expressed their willingness to forgo the usual Christmas tree Ibis year, and to donate any money available for that purpose to the Wounded Soldiers Fund. Messrs Harvey and Mortlock were authorised to procure on honours board for past pupils who are now serving their country. As thq committee desires to get a complete list ft names, it would be pleased if parents would advise the head master of eouh who nro ex-pupila of the school and are now on active service. A donation of £2 2s was passed towards the Christmas tree, and it was also decided to donate 1 ft silver medal again. It was decided that the school should break up for the Christmas vacation on the Wednesday prior to Christmas Day. The Visiting Committee’s report was very satisfactory. The question of improving the cricket pitch for the boys to practise cn was discussed, and Messrs Harvey and Wraight were appointed a subcommittee to get into touch with the school coach, with power to act. BELFAST. The Belfast School Committee met on Tuesday; present—Mr Spencer (chairman), Rev T. Curnow and Messrs Beaglc.y, CleJland. Lawn, Harris, Marshall, Wliito and Halligan. The master reported that the sixth standard examination for proficiency certificates took place on November 11, and all the candidates, numbering eleven, were successful. Mr Balch. who has been appointed to Shirley Road .School, tendered his resignation as master. Mk Poison has been recommended to the board as Mr Ba-lch a successor. Mr Wicks has been appointed to Sponcerville School. It was decided to close the school on December 18, and for the Christmas holidays from December 22 to January 25. Accounts amounting to 18s Gd were passed for payment.
