MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH

Air H. W. Bishop, S.M., presided yesterday at the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court.

Charles "Weston, who appeared on remand on a charge of drunkenness and brench of a prohibition order since November 24, was convicted and discharged on both charges. James Luke pleaded guilty to supplying liquor to Alary "Wilson, a prohibited person. Senior-Sergeant Matliicson said the case was a very bad one. "Wilson was a married woman, and her husband prohibited her. Accused took liquor to the house, and the husband returned to find her lying drunk on the floor. Accused admitted the offence, but said lie only took 2s worth of whisky to the house and did not know the woman was prohibited. The Magistrate said accused had been guilty of a dastavdlv act*. A fine of £5 would be inflicted, in default one month’s imprisonment. Thomas Davidson, farmer, Templeton (Air Cassidy) claimed £2B 15s 3d from Field and Royds (Mr Rowe) in respect of chaff supplied. For tho defence it was alleged that the chaff supplied was damp and musty. After hearing evidence regarding the quality of the chaff the Alagistrate gave judgment in equity and good conscience for £l4 7s 7d. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in each of the following undefended cases:—Trustee for Thomas Henshall and Son v. Arthur Boxall, £3 19s Id: Richard \V. Ariderson v. Henry J. Smith, £1 2s 6d; Herbert Wright v. William Taylor, £4 11s. LYTTELTON.

Mr G. C. Smith, J.P., and Mr L. A. Stringer, J.P., presided at the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court yesterday. George Horne, who pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and to the theft of four tumblers from the United Service Hotel, was lined 5s on the first charge and 10s on the second.
