PARK ROADS.

MAINTENANCE' COMMISSION,

ALLOCATION UNALTERED. Tlie question of the allocation of the cost of 1 tlie upkeep of the roads adjoining Hagloy Park formed the subject of a new commission of inquiry yesterday, when the matter was investigated by Mr W. S. Short, Under-Secretary of Public Works. Tho parties represented were the City Council (Mr Loughnan), Waimairi County Council • (Mr Dougall), Paparua County Council (Mr G. Harper) and Riccarton Borough Council (Mr Johnston). The Commissioner explained that objection had boon made to the allocation made by a previous commission by the Paparua- County Council, that council being debited with traffic from the city abattoirs, which were within its boundaries, but over which it had a.-o rating powers.' A traffic tally had jeen taken by tho Government from October 21 to 28, inclusive (omitting October 25), and tho result of that tally was to confirm the equitable character of the allocation. Tho figures were as follows: —

In this tally abattoirs traffic had been debited to Christchurch, while under the tally on which the original allocation was made such traffic was debited to Paparua. Mr Harper said that _ under the amending Act of last session the Paparun County Council had a right to levy rales on tho abattoirs, and dr/ared, therefore, no alteration of t-no allocation. 1 Dir Johnston raised the point- that, the Waimairi County Council was entitled to consideration in respect of traffic to and from Riccarton railway station. ■ Mr Dougall said tlie point was considered by til® last commission. Mr Johnston did not press the matter, and the parties agreed to accept tho existing allocation, the Commissioner stating that lie would consider the question of costs.
