LICENSING COMMITTEES.
LYTTELTON. The quarterly meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee was held at tho Courthouse yesterday; present— Messrs H. W. Bishop, S.M. (chairman), J. Garrard, O. Bradley, J. Richardson, C. Ferrier and S. W. Mitchell. The police report, generally, was satisfactory, with tho exception, that mention was made of the fact that convictions bad' been entered in the case of the British Hotel aud the Teddington Hotel. In the matter of the application of a transfer of tho British Hotel from Robert Kellaher (Air mint) to James Cornelius Harnett, Air Bishop said Harnett had boon convicted for certain breaches of tho Act, and lie would advise him to be careful. He d‘id not like the idea of a man who was holding a temporary license being convicted for breaches. He hoped that Harnett would take the warning to heart, and not think that it was the duty of a publican to run risks.
Tho transfer was granted. , In the application of Joseph Polaschek, Wheatsheaf Hotel, Teddington, for a transfer of the license to Hubert Aitken, the chairman said that the man had! been in trouble in Court, and the committee did not feel disposed to grant the license. Air Iloban said an effort was being made to find another man, and he suggested that the matter should remain in abeyance for a month. Air Bishop said that it was questionable whether tho hotel was required' at all, and probably it had no right to oxist. It was doubtful if it was five miles from tho nearest hotel. It also got a cheap accommodation license where probably a publican’s should exist. ~ After further discussion, it was agreed to extend the permit to the present holder of the temporary license lor a month, which would allow the owners time to file a new application. In the matter of tho Empire Hotel, Edmund: Hill (Air Cassidy), SeniorSergeant Ryan said the alteration to tho hotel had been completed. The license was renewed. TT . , T . In regard to the Royal Hotel, Lyttelton, Peter Carmichael (Air Cassidy), Air Bishop said that two sets of plans had been beforo the committee, and both had practically been approved' of, but he did not feel justified in signing the two. He understood that the estate intended to apply to the Court for power to borrow tho necessary money to rebuild the plfef- . „ Air Cassidy stated that the financial matters had.' been practically arranged. It was finally decided to leave the matter over for three months. The application of Joseph Albert Horner, Alarino Hotel, Sumner, for a transfer to Daniel Stevens, was granted. „
