ALLEGED GRIEVANCES. The following letter from the secretary of the Trades and Labour Council was discussed at last evening's meeting of the Heathcote County Council: — " I have beeu instructed to again ap[>roach your council on behalf of the abourers in your employ. Wo are of opinion that in times like these all causes of friction between sections of the community should be carefully avoided if possible. The labourers consider that they are .not Deing treated quite, fairly. We have asked you to meet us in conference; we now ask you to hear a deputation from the men at your next meeting. Will you do this? If you will meet us, please let us know the date of the meeting. "We submit herewith a copy of the proposed agreement a* to wages and conditions. If you accept these conditions, we could _ get them registered without bothering the Arbitration Court. If there is anything you object to, we could discuss it, and perhaps meet you on it. " May I point to the fact that Rangiora, Akaroa and all of these outside boroughs are working under agreements with this uuion, and we have never had the slightest complaint from or with them. If you will ring them up, I think they will confirm this statement, that the men are more satisfied, that the engineers can get better work out of the meu, and in no way has it been any handicap to these public bodies. " If you will look into the matter, I am'sure you will agree me. Should you desire it, I am willing to_ attend and talk this matter over. I sincerely hope you will give us credit for trying to fixrthings up without putting either side to too much trouble." It was decided that n sub-committee, consisting of Messrs G. Scott, G. M. Hall, C Flavell and F. A. Anderson, should meet the men's representatives and report to the council at next meet-
