METHODIST CIRCUITS.
CHRISTCHURCH EAST. Tlio quarterly meeting of the Christchurch East Circuit was held in' the East Belt Sohcjolroom 'on Thursday evening. The Rev TV. A. .Sinclair, chairman of the district, presided, and therd was a large attendance of members. The balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance, was adopted as received. Letters of sympathy were directed to be .sent to the relatives of the late Brothers Bundersen and Broadley. Messrs TV. Sherris and F. H. Christian were appointed circuit auditors. Membership, Sunday school and Young People’s Society returns were highly satisfactory. The circuit stewards stated that arrangements had been completed for the publication of a circuit magazine, the first issue of which would appear shortly, and arrangements were made for its distribution. Messrs A. F. Drayton,-F. Thompson, TV. H. Seed and Sheppard Green, were appointed representatives to the district synod, with Messrs Parlde, Strand and Andrew as substitutes. The Rev TV. A. Sinclair was accorded a unanimous invitation to remain in. the circuit a fifth year. The Rev A. Liversedgo was invited to remain as second minister to bo stationed at Linwood, and the Rev C. Strand received also a unanimous -to remain in the circuit and take charge of New Brighton, Windsor and Marshland. Several members spoke in high terms of the faitlii’ul services rendered-by the above mentioned ministers, and the Revs TV. A. Sinclair and 0. Strand suitably replied, accepting their invitations.
CAMBRIDGE TERRACE. The quarterly meeting of tho Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church was held 0 on Thursday evening in the Young Aten’s Room. The Rev _BAletson presided and fifteen official members were present representing Cambridge Terraco and Aladras Street Churches. '[’ho report from Madras Street-St Albans showed that an eiglit-da.vs’ evangelistic mission, conducted by Rev B. Aletson, was specially interesting and had given a spiritual uplift to tho congregation. ' The mission at Cambridcro Terrace conducted by RovS P. Knight and T. Al’Donald, had also been helpful. A request to assist the Chaplains Fund was responded to. A retiring collection towards the Local Preachers’ Mutual Aid Association was arranged Jt was decided that tho River Bank Carnival, to bo held in December, should bo heartily supported, and a committee of ladies was appointed to bring tho appeal before both congregations. The balance-sheet presented was encouraging though it did not quite meet the quarter’s expenses. Tho report to tho Synod was as' follows Cambridge Terrace members 122, Aladras Street members 48, Sunday School scholars 88, teachers 10.
Arrangements were made to hold Christmas and watch-night services. Qn tho motion of tho circuit steward, Air E. 14. Hull, the Rev names Cocker was invited as superintendent minister for next year, the meeting heartily supporting the invitation- The Rev' C. E. Ward was requested to continue at Aladras Streot-St Albans tor a fifth year. Messrs E. E. Hall and C. H. Eanvnker were appointed • representatives to tho Synod. The chairman was directed to send a cable message to Sergeant Leaclle.v. a. local preacher, who was ill at Gallipoli. Letters of sympathy wore directed to ho sent to seven or eight families who were suffering from sickness or bereavement.
