A NEW ORGAN.

'OPENED AT OXFORD TERRACE BAPX'IST CHURCH.

Last nigbt, at the Oxford Terrace Baptist Churchj the new organ was oiuuially opened, when Mr Artuur Lilly gave a recital on the now instrument. Tno church thirty-three years ago was fitted with an organ which was old, and last evening, in referring to the new organ, the Rev J. J. North said that for thirty-three years the cuurch had been the worst served of the larger churches of ' the city. In 1912 an old member of the church donated £IOO as the nucleus of a new organ fund, and gradually the fund grew until it became" possible to .purchase the' now instrument. The new organ, a large two-manual by Baringtous, with 93'2 pipes, was carried out from Lonoon freight free by the Shaw'j Savill and Albion Compauv. and Mr A. Chidgey without charge had designed the architectural alterations in tlio church necessitated by the installation of the new "organ. New choir stalls had been addpd, and thoro was i aew communion table and chairs. Everything was j>.ud' for, and the organ was free of debt. Mr L.lly's items proved an excellent test of the capabii.fces of the organ, iriclnding as.they did the "Prelude in G Major" (Bach), first movement of Mendelsohn's "Sonata iu Q x\li-ior." Chopin's " Nocturne jn G Major," Prelude to Act ill. of " liohengrin " (Wagner*. "The Storm-'* 1 (Lemmens), '•Lareo in «. (Handel), "Solveig's ..-Jong" from ''leer Gynt" (Griefltl and ''March Sjlenelle in C Major" (Mailly). Madame (Wis riolgatesanp "God that Madest -Earth and' Heaven," aid Madame Sh.Uito and Mr I.V Jones the cluet, My Song Shall Be Alway of Thy Mercy'; (Mondelsolin), while the choirs anthems wer" "Sine: a Song of Praise ".(Stainer) av' the «*H-lVl"i"ii Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah.
