C.D.C.'S AS HARVESTERS.

TO THE EDITOR. - Sir,—ln your issue of to-day I notice that Mr J. B. Laurenson attended a meeting of. the Farmers' Union and practically offered the Citizens' Defence Corps to the farmers for harvesting operations. Now, sir, I would like to ask Mr Laurenson how many corps gave him permission to offer their services. Anyhow from personal knowedge of the harvest paddock over many years I can safely state that not 10 per cent of the Citizens' Defence Corps would last a week, and a big percentage would be as useful as "a )ainted ship upon a painted sea." Incidentally I would thank Messrs Sheat and Horrell for the amicable words they put in for labour. It is to e-very-mes interest that the harvest is got in, and I think the farmers have nothing to worry about. They will get it saved all right and I hope it's arecord crop.—l am, etc., THE NAVVY. Ashburton, July 22.
