—* INQUEST AT ASHBTJRTON. Mr V. G. Day, District Coroner, held an inquest at the Ashburton Hospital on "Wednesday touching the death ofl John Callanan, aged sixty-three years. From the ev.idence it appeared that Callanan, who had been boarding at JJevane's private hotel, showed symptoms of serious illness on Wednesday. Dr Hunter was immediately called in and Callanan, who was suffering from acute pneumonia, was ordered to be removed to the Hospital, and he expired just as he. reached the Hospital gates. A po.st mortem revealed the fact that both lungs were full of fluid and that ho had practically died of drowning. Medical evidence ■ also showed that the illness which had attacked the deceased was such as is liable to come on and develop very suddenly. A verdict was returned to the effect that death had resulted from pneumonia. The deceased was formerly a gold miner and cattlo dealer in the Waitahuna district, near Lawrence, Otago. [Per Frks3 Association.] WELLINGTON, July 29.. _ At the inquest on Pnrslow, the victim of the Martin Street shooting affair, the verdict was that death was due to shock from a bullet wound inflicted while the man was temporarily insane.
