HOSPITAL BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING.

The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Boa.rd met yesterday; present—Mr F. Horreill (chairman), Mesdames Christie, _ Wilson and Green and Messrs J. Davison, S. Andrew, H. J. Otley, W. P. Spencer, J. D. Hall, O. Bradley, W. W. Tanner, W. H. Cooper, H. B. Sorensen, T. D. Boag, G. Scott, F. G. Norton and L. Andrew.

Messrs A. D. Hassall and R. H. Taylor waited on the board and asked that special arrangements should bo made for the treatment of members of the Rechabite Order. The question was referred to the Hospital Committee for a report. Drs G. J. Blackmore, J. F. Duncan and A. B. Pearson submitted a report on the operation of the Public Health Act. The machinery for dealing with health matters generally, they stated, seemed to be adequate, and there was no reason to suppose that if the beard had enlarged powers there would be an improvement in carrying out the provisions of the Act. Mr S. Andrew stated that the Kaikoura County Council had decided to give £250 for a maternity ward at the Kaikoura Hospital. The Public Health Committe reported that Dr G. J. Blackmore had called attention to the need for more accommodation at the Consumption Sanatorium on the men's side. There were already three soldiers in his care, and it was likely that many cases of tuberculosis would be sent home from the front. The committee had decided to arrange for the erection of about four more shelters. The report was adopted.

Mt Cooper gave notice to move at nest meeting " That_ all the families receiving charitable aid at present receive extra rations to the extent of 12-J per cent during the war."
