ARBOR DAY.
SCHOOL COMMITTEES AT WORK
Although Arbor Day is past, and very little attention was paid to it in tho matter of tree-planting, the schools are not ignoring the object for which Arbor Day stands. The chief instructor in agriculture reported to the Education Board ydsterday that some twenty 6chools had written with regard to planting of trees, and' that in a number of cases plans for playground improvement were being prepared. A letter was also received from the Christchurch City Council covering correspondence with reference to the proposed seed campaign and suggesting that tho school children should be organised for the purpose of glowing and gathering grass seed. It was resolved that' the board'should approve of the efforts made to promote a seed campaign, and_ that a copy of the circular emanating from the " Auckland Weekly News " should be sent to each school committee, supplemented by any practical suggestions the chief instructor of agriculture should see his way to make.
