SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

WALTHAM. J The Waitharn School Committee met on Wednesday: present—Messrs C. V. Harvey (chairman), T. Mortlock, A. Watkins, S. D. Besley, R. B. Woodward and R. Watterson. •

The head master reported that the average attendance for the past month was 633; the highest attendance was (iuo and the present roll number 682. In view of the introduction of organised games in connection with the new I physical drill, it was decided to apply jto the board for au 4v of footballs

ADDINGTON. The Addingion School Committee met on. Wednesday evening; present— Mr M. W. Woodneld (chairman), Mesdames Merry and Robbins, and Messrs J. Down, W. Downing, W. Hell and J. Spiller. The head master's report stated that the number on the roll was 668. and the highest attendance 64t5. Fifty new pupils had been admitted since the reopening of the school. Board scholarships had been gained by Olive Richards, William Smith and SMann, and free places by Ella West, Thomas Barne,*, Herbert Wallis, John O'Neill, Malcolm M'Donald and Cecil Penlington. Twenty-nine pupils of standard VI. had gained proficiency certificates and seven gained competency certificates. There were no failures. Miss Verni Hill and Miss Vera Stackhouso had been appointed pupil teachers. The infant school contributed the following amounts to the various war funds: —Ambulance 30s. Belgian children's fund £7 6s 4d, clothing for Belgian boy, per Victoria League, 85s 7sd, and £2 13s 8d for the Belgium Fund. The sum of £4 5s had been coll«cted_ by Mesdames Pounsford and Renwick for the nse of a kindergarten in the Addinaton district. It was decided to congratulate the head master and staff on the ht'ehly successful resnlts attained at the recent scholarship examinations. The Library Committee was empowered to purchase a number of new books. Reeret was expressed at the illness of Mr H. Kennedy.

PAPANUI. The Papanui School Committee met on Monday evening; present—Messrs F. E. Jones (chairman), Kettle, Fye, Driscoll, Marshall, Patrick and Hookham. The Board of Education wrote stating that Miss Adel© Hodgson had been appointed assistant mistress. The head master reported' the roll number for February at the main school to be 243 and tho average attendance 218. At Bhgh's Road School the numbers wore 122 and 106 respectively. In connection with the school picnic held last month, a, hearty vote of thanks was passed to tho trustees of the Riccarton Racecourse for tho use of their grounds, to all those who had contributed so generously, and to the ladies whose able assistances had made the picnic, such a success. It was announced that the school would - close on March 19.

RICHMOND. The Richmond School Committee met on Friday; present—Messrs J. Burgess (in the chair), Buist. Brown, Holliday, Kay, Pentecost and Ramsay. The Education Board wroto granting Mr L. Quartcrmain four weeks' leave of absence owing to ill-health- Tho head master's report showed the average attendance to bo 696, with a roll number of 754. The offer of Mrs J. Burgess to donate tho sum of £1 Is for sewing prizes was accepted with thanks. The report of the Picnic Committee stated that the function had been very successful, the balance-sheet showing a profit of £1 Os lOd. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to all who had contrrtroted to the picnic prize fund, to Mr W. Bassett for his gift of a cricket bat and tennis racquet, and to the Richmond Working Men's Club for donation of £1 Is. Accounts to tho amount of £8 3s 7d were passed for payment. The secretary was authorised to procure tender* for fuel for the incoming year..
