ASHBURTON.

At a meeting of the general committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held on Saturday afternoon, a letter was received from the Governor’s secretary stating that their Excellencies tho Governor •and tho -Countess of Liverpool would be pleased if possible to. attend, tbe autumn show and that if they could do so they would arrive on tlie ground about 1.40 on Thursday. A special committee was appointed to act in conjunction with the general reception committee to receive their Excellencies. It was decided to invite Mr J. Kerrigan, M.R.C.V.S.. to act with Mr Wylie ill giving a demonstration on tho show f round on the points of a draught orse.

ft was decided that tho appointment of a delegate to attend the Agricultural Conference in July should bo held in abeyance till next meeting and to write in the meantime and ascertain whether the secretary, Mr J. B. Christian, could also attend as a delegate. A letter was read from Mr J. Studholme stating that owing to his departure for Treutbam he Would be unable to be present, at the show. On the motion of Mr J. Grigg it was resolved that a letter should be written to Mr Studholme expressing tlie association’s appreciation of the valuable services he had rendered for a number of years to the association, wishing him God speed, and also expressing the association’s appreciation of Mr Studholme’s patriotic spirit in offering his services to his country. Mr N. M. Dunlop and Mr Frank Peter were elected members of the association.

Notice of motion was given that Mr John Bonifant should be elected a life member in recognition of his many years’ service.
