MOTORIST ARRESTED.

FAILED TO STOP AFTER ACCIDENT. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 14.

A man named Hugh M’Geachen was knocked down by a motor-car and received pninful injuries to his head. A number of pedestrians who witnessed the accident called out to the driver of the car and an attempt was madeto stop him. One of the bystanders jumped on to the motor ns it was passing him, hut was unable to make the driver pull up. Luckilv a policeman on point duty at Wellesley Street realised what was happening, and he managed to bring the car to a standstill. The driver of the car was arrested and was driven to the police station in his own car, the services of a chauffeur from a taxi stand near by being requisitioned to take him to the lockup-
