SPREYDON BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATION.

The Spreydon Burgesses’ Association met on Tuesday. Councillor Hancock wrote thanking the association for its support at the last election, and stating ms intention of not seeking re-election for the council. It was resolved that Mr Hancock should be elected a member of the association.

In response to an invitation from the association requesting the candidates for the Mayoralty to address them, Councillor W. H. Winsor wrote regretting his inability to attend owing to a previous engagement. Councillor T. Woods gave an address on many important matters affecting the distriot. He stated the scheme submitted to tho Borough Council by the Government and City Council for electric light was not, in his opinion, in the interest of the district, but he hoped that in the near future some proposal would be received which would he acceptable to the council and ratepayers. The present sanitation arrangements should* receive early consideration. In according a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Woods, the chairman said lie had proved a very energetic member of tho council. A letter was received from the Borough Council in reply to a recent deputation stating that the council would metal twenty chains of ’Edinburgh Street after March 31. Messrs 11. IT. Taylor ami I>. M’Clenaghan were nominated as councillors at the coming election for the East Ward of Spreydon. The nomination for the West Ward’ was held-over until the next mooting. A discussion on the septic tank principle of disposing of night-soil was deferred until next meeting.
