Free who was attending a similar function at Leeston, sent an apology for his absence, and expressed best wishes for tho success of the gathering. The annual Boxin<r Day sports at Woodend on Saturday were run as a patriotic gathering, with the object of donating all the surplus cash proceeds to the Britain and Belgium Poor Fund. The weather being perfect for outdoor sport, the residents of the township and neighbourhood turned out in full force, and everyone appeared to find plenty of pleasure in witnessing the trials of spetd, strength and ei-duran'ce between the youths of the district. There was no dearth of entries for the various events, and all were keenly contested. Prizes to tho value of £3 wero given for children's sports. The Rangiora, Brass Band contributed to the pleasure of the gathering with some very good music. The gate money (".mounted to £27 3s. Following are the results: 150yds Race, bovs under fifteen—A.
