SUNDAY CONCERTS.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I believe, the bulk of Christ-1 -rhiirch citizens will uphold the de-' cision of tho Mayor and some of his councillors in their resolution regarding the Sunday night concerts. It is simply getting tho thin edge of tho wedge in for applications from all and sundry for entertainments. Goodness knows the city is full of amusements and concerts all the six days of thoj week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in a dozen places in the city, without want-' ing the sanctity of the Sabbath in- ] fringed also. We do not want the Continental Sabbath here. 1 consider there is no conrparison between these, wished for concerts and the organ recitals. The former are purely moneymaking projects from the point of the lessees of the buildings and many of the performers. See how many would promote these for pure interest in the people without pecuniary returns. Tho recitals are not run for gain, but to provide choice sacred music, listened to m a reverential spirit, begun half an hour after the churches are all out, where people may walk quietly in and where what money is taken is simply to pay expenses and where these are not always met even. We cannot be too careful in letting in entertainments for monetary ends on the Sunday. All credit to the Council.—l am, etc., BE CAUTIOUS.
