EMPLOYERS AND THE CRISIS

AN APPLICATION REFUSED

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 26.

Mr Justice Powers, in the Arbitration Court, refused the Feltham employers' application to grant a reduction of wages owing to tho depression of trade caused by tho war and drought.

He expressed the opinion that the application had been mado to enable the employers to continue to employ tho men below a living wage for an indefinite period, and indicated that the applicants had shown a disposition to shirk their share of the burden of the present crisis. He hoped the employers would not require that all tho patriotism should be shown by the men.
