UNFALTERING RESOLVE OF ALLIES. A REGENERATED EUROPE. PARIS, December 24. ' M. Viviani, in his speech at the opening of Parliament, said that Germany's endeavour to throw responsibility for the war upon the Allies no longer deceived even +he mosv credulous. Germany had pureed her object for forty years, whie' vas by crushing Franco to strive a- tho Xunination of tho world, fhp Allies aimed at a reconstructed and regenerated Europe founded upon justico and right government. They had solemnly undertaken that they would rebuild the ruins caused by the German invasion, and this certainly would be borne in mind in tho indemnities they would exact. "Before the day cf definite victory is reached," ho said, "tho task will be heavy and may bo long. Let us have before our minds the ideal of right. Belgium is giving to this ideal all the blood in her veins. England, unshakeable England, is fighting for it,, also foitiiful Russia, intrepid Sorvia and the courageous Japanese navy." ELECTIONS POSTPONED. PARIS, December 24. The Senate passed a Bill postponing all the elections till the end of the ! war. WAR EXPENDITURE. PARIS, Deoember 24. j The Chamber of Deputies unanimousI ly passed a credit of £341,000,000, inj eluding £241,000,000 for war expondi- | ture. It will be met by Treasury bonds j and advances by the Bank of France. | Fourteen millions have been advanced | to Belgium, Servia, Greece and Mon- \ tenegro. J _ In the French Chamber there was an j impressive demonstration of national J unity. Seats of deputies who had fallen in the field were ornamented with triI colour scarves and draped with crape. I The voice of the whole nation was heard in the thunders of applause | which greeted calm, defiant passages stating unfaltering resolve to fight to a finish.
