OBITUARY.

REV J. N. BUTTLE. The Rev John Newman Buttle, a wellknown Methodist minister, died aj his residence in Fitzgerald Avenue yesterday at the age of sixty-five years. Mr Buttle was the son of tho Rev John Buttle, a Maori missioner who came to the Dominion in the early days and worked among tho Maoris in the North Island for many years. Mr Buttle was born in the Dominion and was educated in New Zealand and in England, where ho completed his studies. Ho was a theological student at tho College, Auckland, and entered the ministry thirty-fivo years ago. He was president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference in 1905 and for a number of years was foreign missions secretary for New Zealand. He took a prominent part in mission work. His last appointment was at Wools ton, from which ho retired about eighteen months ago. Mr Buttle was particularly well known in Auckland, where his brother is chairman of tho Stock Exchange.
